25 Reasons Why You Should Dress Up Every Day

Fashion sense is not limited by college dress codes, but by one’s imagination. Fashion savvy students have learnt to innovative within the boundaries set by colleges, and successfully put together ensembles that demonstrate attitude and a sense of style.

Since when did it become an unusual thing to put effort into what you wear and have fun with fashion? Since when is anyone not wearing sweatpants and a hoodie breaking unwritten social rules? Why should “dressing up” be reserved for special occasions only?

I was immediately inspired to create this list. I firmly believe in “dressing up” every day of your life, and I think you should too!

So why dress up? Here are 25 good reasons.

1 Because life’s too short to blend in. Don’t settle for average.
2 Because you’re only young once. You’re way more gorgeous than you know & have a fabulous body you’ll one day look back on and wish you had! Take advantage now and show off how fabulous you can be.
3 Because fashion is a method of self expression. What are you trying to say?
4 Because you never know who you’ll run into. Brad Pitt at the grocery store? Hey, stranger things have happened.
5 Because it obviously annoys some people (like the guy who asks why YOU are so dressed up). The fact that it annoys them so much is all the more reason to keep doing it.
6 Because you never know, there’s always a chance you could get snapped by The Sortorialist
7 Because you deserve to look your best at all times.
8 Because you’ll never improve your sense of style if your default look is “I give up”. Yes, that was a Seinfeld reference. But it’s true!
9 Because dressing up helps you weed out friends who don’t love you for you. If they have a problem with the way you dress, they’re not the kind of friends you want around.
10 Because cute clothes and accessories are a great conversation starter. Wear something fabulous and people will ask you where you got it.
11 Because parties aren’t the only time to celebrate.
12 Because that fabulous party dress in your closet cost too much to only be worn once. Remember cost per wear?
13 Because it’s fun!
14 Because even if you live in an “unstylish” city & are scared to dress up, cities don’t become stylish without someone going first. I know it sounds cheesy, but be the change you want to see in the world. Everyone else can follow your fabulous lead.
15 Because dressing up helps you make fashion mistakes and get past them. Mistakes happen to everyone and that’s how you learn what not to do – get them out of the way now!
16 Because it’s a test of your confidence. Dressing unconventionally forces you to develop the self-assurance necessary to stand out from everyone else.
17 Because fashion is one of the rare instances where art comes alive. What artistic statement do you want to make?
18 Because if you’ve got it (great style, killer confidence, amazing legs), it’s just wrong not to flaunt it.
19 Because someday when you have a 9-5 corporate job and are required to wear business suits, you’re going to miss the freedom of dress you had in college. Experiment now! There’s no better time.
20 Because glamour isn’t only reserved for the rich and famous, even though maybe they’d like you to believe it is.
21 Because if conspiracy theorists are to be believed, the world might end on 12/31/2012 – that’s only 1211 days from now! Even though we all worried about Y2K too, why not be on the safe side? Don’t spend the theoretical 1211 days you have left in sweats.
22 Because Carrie Bradshaw would not approve of your sweatpants and UGG boots. You can do better than that. And deep down, you know I’m right.
23 Because dressing well means you don’t have to do your hair at all – you’ll have that ultra fabulous, slightly disheveled Kate Moss look.
24 Because nothing beats the rush you feel when you look in the mirror and LOVE what you see.
25 Because you want to. That’s the only reason that matters.
(or maybe the guys over at Street Spotted)!

The Love Month: Your Numerology Cycles for February 1–14, 2010

Let’s face it, February is a love month. Not only is it Valentine’s Day this month, but Vancouver and the surrounding area is in love with itself and all its Olympic possibilities. Daffodils are already struggling to show themselves in all their glory. I think I saw a camellia bush in full bloom this week. It’s spring and we are in Vancouver. We must have all done something good in our past lives.

To discover what the first half of February will bring for you, find your key number by adding the day and month of your birth. Continue adding until you arrive at a single digit. For example, if your birthday is February 14, your personal number is determined as follows: 02 + 14 = 16. Then 1 + 6 = 7, and you have the key number (7) that you will keep for life.

1 Key Number
The best-laid plans in life and love life will begin with a clear perception of what you really, really want. This is not a time to compromise. Being in love with love is all very well, but being honest with yourself is what gets you into the bed you really want to sleep in, eventually. Remember, flowers and cards are a necessity, not an option.

2 Key Number
This may seem like a “going nowhere” month, but it’s actually a time for inner journeying. There is a great deal of magic available to you now. Play with it. Send some energy to your favourite athlete. Intention, when well focussed, can actually make a difference. Ask Adam, Vancouver’s own Olympic-class healer. He’ll tell you it’s true.

3 Key Number
Expect results this month. What you have been creating in your life will returns in the form of results, positive and negative. Don’t be a cry-baby if you have neglected to create good karma. Just dry your tears and start again. The gods of karma will smile on your good intentions.

4 Key Number
Wrap things up now. Find a position where you have a clear, unobstructed view of your life and decide what is working for you and what isn’t. Use your charm in social situations and no one will be able to resist you, especially if you smile. Emotional life may be a bit rocky, but what ends now is fated, and you can’t argue with fate, though you can change it through positive action.

5 Key Number
This vibrant period brings a new beginning for you, a new slate on which to write your future. This month contains a fortunate, if somewhat aggressive, energy. It is a time to plant seeds for the future, make new friends and contacts, and push your dreams forward. Avoid a tendency to be overwhelming with those close to you. Your dreams may not be theirs.

6 Key Number
Go with the flow. Life is full of opportunities if you work in the background. You may not be a figure skater, but this is a time when your graceful motion and ease with diplomacy can win gold medals for you in the game of life. Co-operation and support of others is the key. Just continue to skate around awkward situations with flair and gracious movement.

7 Key Number
This is a perfect month for you to enjoy the Olympics. Socialize, celebrate and bring joy to others. You are under the influence of a creative vibration and your energy is at its peak. Take time away from work if you can, but if not, be as creative as possible wherever you find yourself. You have the choice between being joyful or depressed. Choose joy—you’ll be happy you did.

8 Key Number
This is the month for great accomplishments. Yes, you will be tested, but push on through in a methodical, structured way, and build your life as you want it. Love is in the air, but you will also need stability and balance. This is not a time to play the field. Pay attention to details, especially in contracts or agreements.

9 Key Number
Wear red whenever possible. Explore, take time off, and take risks in communication. Open your mind to the possibility of making new friends and starting new relationships. Go outside and talk to strangers. This is a month to party and exercise freedom. There will be a strong tendency to overindulge in everything that is fun. Go for it, but in a moderate way.

Five Positive Traits That Are Exhibited By A Successful Manager

When it comes time to evaluate the performance of a department or team, one must first look at the performance of the manager. The manager is the one responsible for the make-up and performance of the team. Through their interaction on a personal level with the team as a whole along with their interaction with the individuals that make up the team, they are expected to be able to motivate and encourage employees so that they can perfom at their best. The role of the modern day manager has evolved more into that of a coach and mentor than that of a task master.

Here are five positive traits exhibited by the successful manager.

1. Lead By Example

A successful manager knows that their employees are always watching them. It is very hard for a manager to expect their employees to exhibit strong work habits if they do not exhibit them themselves. Managers should work hard to show up on time, stay busy during the work day, and not leave early. They should always help out co-workers when time allows and do everything possible to help the work environment be positive.

2. See And Communicate What The Big Picture Is

When a manager can identify and translate how their employees’ roles in the company affect both the product or service that is being created or performed as well as how their role affects their co-workers, he is giving the employee the kind of understanding of the big picture that most companies don’t provide. Knowing the ins and outs of why their job is important and who is depending on them doing it well is a great way to inspire workers to take even the most mundane tasks that they are required to perform more seriously.

3. Encouraging Growth Of An Employee In Their Job

A good employee who strives to improve their skills and undertake more responsibility in the workplace should be encouraged by management to do so. These employees are incredibly valuable to a company as they are more often than not the company leaders of tomorrow. A successful manager needs to not only encourage this type of employee, but make sure that employee also knows that their extra efforts are appreciated and rewarded too.

4. Recognizing And Rewarding When Appropriate

Whilis the an employee should complete their assigned task simply because it is their job, a successful manager knows that they will have better performing employees if they are rewarded and recognized for doing so. Every worker wants to feel like their efforts and hard work are appreciated. This appreciation doesn’t always need to be shown in the form of a monetary bonus; positive words, gift cards, certificates, and public recognition are also effective.

5. Great Team Building

One of the hardest traits for a manager to develop is the ability to assemble great teams to work under them. It isn’t enough to just assemble well qualified individuals and hope that they can get the job done. Team members have to compliment the abilities and skills that they each possess or a manager may end up with workers who are unable to work together. A successful manager also needs to assemble employees that will help to create a positive work environment. Few things lower productivity more than a workplace where the employees do not want to show up or give one hundred percent.

Building a successful team and then coaching and guiding them to a point where every amount of talent and skill is maximized so that the output of the employees is more than enough to reach the goals set for the team by the company. A successful manager knows that it takes more than assembling a strong team though, they must also create a positive work environment and guide their employees through the rough spots or any points of confusion. A successful manager can both put the team together and then guide their performance towars the goals that have been set.

Top 14 Most Romantic Movies in the season of LOVE

Feeling romantically challenged? Or maybe you’re looking for some movies to share with your Valentine. Bring out the hankies and ice the champagne, if these 14 movies don’t put you in the mood, nothing will.

1. Casablanca (1942)
Romantic Leads: Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman
How Romantic: You know the story, yet this film remains a Hollywood classic in which all the elements--acting, script, direction, photography, music--come together with panache. It's a cliché, but it's true: They don't make 'em like this anymore.

2. Sabrina (1954)
Romantic Leads: Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn and William Holden
How Romantic: A tale about a chauffeur's daughter living on a wealthy Long Island family's estate who falls for the family's playboy-ish son, but later realizes that his all-business, serious older brother is the one she really loves. Audrey has never looked more fetching. Plus, it holds out hope for all us grumpy, older bachelors still searching for the perfect mate.

3. When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Romantic Leads: Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan
How Romantic: The movie's love-struck climax comes at a New Year's Eve celebration when Harry runs miles and miles to tell Sally: "I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

4. Gone With the Wind (1939)
Romantic Leads: Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh
How Romantic: The epic story of a woman who can cope with everything during the Civil War except losing the love of the man she thinks she wants to another woman, then realizes too late that she's let the true love of her life slip through her fingers forever. It's devastatingly sad that the two destined lovebirds simply can't communicate enough to be together.

5. Titanic (1997)
Romantic Leads: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet
How Romantic: The classic rich girl meets poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks--only you know their love is doomed from the very start when they board the ill-fated Titanic. The fact that true love can never die has never been so poignantly portrayed.

6. An Affair to Remember (1957)
Romantic Leads: Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr
How Romantic: Handsome playboy Nicky and beautiful singer Terry have an affair while on a cruise and both agree to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building in six months. The final scene is wonderfully romantic and is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes, as love conquers all.

7. Romeo and Juliet (1968)
Romantic Leads: Leonard Whiting, Olivia Hussey
How Romantic: No matter how many times you watch this, this rendition of Shakespeare's classic leaves you absolutely breathless (and weepy) at the end, despite already knowing the stunningly beautiful couple's fate before you press Play.

8. Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
Romantic Leads: Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan
How Romantic: A newly engaged woman hears a widower on a call-in radio show talking about his departed wife and becomes obsessed with meeting him, convinced that he may be her one true love. A sweet romantic comedy with perfectly cast stars.

9. Pretty Woman (1990)
Romantic Leads: Richard Gere, Julia Roberts
How Romantic: A wealthy, cold-blooded business tycoon chances to meet a bright, spunky Hollywood Boulevard hooker. He hires her to be his companion for a week, spruces her up and--well, you can figure out what happens next. This twist on an old formula is surprisingly delightful.

10. Love Story (1970)
Romantic Leads: Ryan O'Neal, Ali MacGraw
How Romantic: Boy-meets-dream girl in the ivy-clad walls of a New England University. They set out to start the perfect life together, despite familial objections, only to find Mrs. Right stricken with a fatal illness. Be prepared with extra tissues.

11. Annie Hall (1977)
Romantic Leads: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton
How Romantic: The amorous adventures of a neurotic New York comedian and his equally neurotic Midwestern girlfriend Annie Hall. The film traces the course of their relationship from their first meeting, and serves as an interesting historical document about love in the 1970s. It's still Allen's best film.

12. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Romantic Leads: Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard
How Romantic: When a struggling writer moves into a Manhattan apartment, he befriends his irrepressible neighbor, a woman who lives off her good looks and charming ways. As Paul learns more about Holly, the friendship between the two hustlers turns to love. Gamine Audrey Hepburn is at her most charismatic here.

13. An Officer and a Gentleman (1982)
Romantic Leads: Richard Gere, Debra Winger
How Romantic: A naval officer wanna-be and a blue-collar local girl living just off base are looking to find paths out of their dead-end lives, and find each other. Is their love enough to save the day? You betcha.

14. The Way We Were (1973)
Romantic Leads: Robert Redford, Barbra Streisand
How Romantic: They meet in college, but years pass before a romance blooms. She's a political activist; he's bored by politics. She's stern and serious; he's easygoing and laid-back. Although they love each other deeply, their differences begin to tear them apart. The high-water mark among modern tearjerkers, this bittersweet tale makes a fine romantic-movie litmus test, as its heartwrenching melodrama is every bit as sweeping as its ambitious story arc.

Managing the Time Effectively

Time Management is essential to success at work. God gives to each of us a limited, finite number of hours in a year in which to achieve our goals. He gives us these hours in sequence, they are neither repeatable nor refundable, and He is not partial to either the rich or to the poor, to the young or to the old.
All of us 24 hours a day and we should plan these 24 hours. Planning our time allows us to spread our work, avoid a "Traffic jam" of work and cope with the work stress.

Many deadlines for work occur at the same time and unless we plan ahead, we will find it impossible to manage. To meet the demands of work we need to spread our workload over the allotted time. Work out what needs to be done and when. Work out how to use available time as efficiently as possible.

Time Wasters

  • Attempting too much
  • Not saying 'NO'
  • Incomplete information
  • Management by crisis, fire fighting
  • Interruption

Ways To Manage Your Time

  • Knowing when 'NOT' to work is as important as knowing when to work.
  • Save the easiest tasks for the end of the day.
  • Do important jobs now before they become urgent.
  • Learn to it now.
  • The habit of putting of important tasks can rob you hours of achievement and success.
  • When you are feeling down, don't stay there. Do something.
  • You have to be very clever to do simple things! Including prioritizing to manage your time effectively.
  • Arrange things in your office/work place in such a manner that when you want a thing you can get it fast. Write a keyword on the item when you read it. File according to how you will use it, not where it came from.
  • Use your checklist yourself and insist that everyone who reports to you also uses it.
  • Inform people why you can't do what you promised well in time, like making payments. Time is like money.
  • Don't waste your time on reading newspapers cover to cover and watching television non stop. Learn to sift information, to read/watch those things that will be of benefit to you.
  • Don't waste your time on TV serials or cricket, when you are not going to enter into those professions.
  • Discourage frequent interruptions. Don't interrupt others and do not allow others to interrupt you. Often once the boss called in his secretary 26 times during the day and you can imagine the output will be poor.
  • Develop an attitude of 5 to 9, and overcome the attitude of 9 to 5. 9 to 5 attitude is a clerical attitude. Try to develop an attitude of 9 to 5. 5 to 9 attitude does not mean that you should wake up at 5 a.m. and work till 9 p.m. This 5 to 9 attitude means that whenever you wake up in the morning, start thinking about your work how you can improve your work to get more success.
  • Get another telephone for your family.
  • Understanding comes time.
  • Have patience…………………………………..before you become a impatient.
  • 20% of what we do will yield 80% of the results and vice versa. Doing the right work at right time is more important than doing work rightly.
  • Prioritize between routine, important and urgent jobs. Categorize the jobs into three categories A, B and C. Don't argue with anyone on 'B' and 'C' (the lesser important) variety of jobs.
  • Take and make decisions quickly. Again, for 'B' and 'C' variety of jobs, take and make decisions quickly. If they are wrong you can correct them inexpensively. Take your time in making decisions for the 'A' type.
  • 'ROTI' stands for 'Return On Time Invested' when watching serials or cricket as against spending time with your boss or your family, apply the principle of 'ROTI' (As given by Mr. Promod Batra). As you calculate 'ROI' i.e. 'Return On Investment' for the amount of money which you have invested. In the same way, the 'ROTI' should be calculated for the time you have invested in doing a task. That mean, you should know how much you will get in return by investing your time.
  • Just because you can do something does not mean you should.
  • You do not have to do everything everybody tells you to do.
  • You have to please other people. But you also have to please yourself because people take advantage of you only with your permission.
  • You do not have to do everything yourself.
  • While prioritizing the jobs, one should ask some questions like:
    • 1. What is the objective?
      2. How will I know if I am successful?
      3. How will I be rewarded?
      4. Is this task something I want to do?
      5. Do I have the time to do it?
      6. Is there a better way to do it?
      7. Should it even be done at all?
      8. Will the world come to an end if?

  • Establish daily, short term, mid term, and long term priorities.
  • Establish Personal deadlines and ones for the organization.
  • Ensure all meeting have a purpose, time limit and include only essential people.
  • Knowing when to stop a task, policy or procedure.
  • Use checklists and To-Do lists.
  • Adjust priorities as a result of new tasks.
  • Divide large tasks into a series of small tasks. By creating small manageable tasks, the entire task will eventually be accomplished. Also, by using a piecemeal approach, you will be able to fit into your hectic schedule.
  • Do not put unneeded efforts into a project. There is a place for perfectionism, but for most activities, there comes a stage when there is not much to gain from putting extra effort into it. Save perfectionism for the tasks that need it.

In short the 'MISER' concept' (as mentioned by Mr. Promod Batra in his book 'Be a Winner Everytime')can be used to manage the time effectively. It is a way to reduce the time taken to complete any task.

M => Stands for 'Merge'. Can I merge it with some other activity? Meaning there by doing more than one task at a time reduces the time taken to complete the tasks separately.

I => Stands for 'Improving'. Can I improve it? And most of the time we can, if we have a working attitude of 5 to 9 instead of 9 to 5.

S => Stands for 'Simplify'! Any action or activity can be simplified.

E => Stands for 'Eliminating'. Many things we do. We do not need to do them in the first place.

R => Stands for 'Reducing' the activity. This is where your experience, exposure and wisdom will help you.

When you prioritize your work, you manage your time effectively, you achieve the success. For managing your time effectively, you have to be creative and innovative. Innovated ideas should be developed along with the existing ones to the time or the more appropriate word to steal the time. Since time is crucial factor for individual as well as for the society, for the businessman as well as for the serviceman, it is important to manage the time effectively to step up the stairs of the success and touch the new heights.

Sharpen Your AXE

A young person who graduated yesterday and stops learning today will become uneducated tomorrow.

Radhika, a woodcutter, worked for a Company for five years but never got a raise. The Company hired Amy and within a year she got a promotion. This caused resentment in Radhika and she went to her Boss to talk about it. The Boss said, "You are still cutting the same number of trees you were cutting five years ago. We are a result-oriented company and would be happy to give you a raise if your productivity goes up."

Radhika went back started hitting harder and putting in longer hours but she still wasn't able to cut more trees. She went back to her Boss and told him his dilemma. The Boss asked Radhika to go and talk to Amy. "Maybe there is something Amy knows that you and I don't."

Radhika asked Amy how she managed to cut more trees. Amy answered, "After every tree I cut, I take a break for two minutes and 'sharpen my axe'. When was the last time you sharpened your axe?"

This question hit like a bullet and Radhika got his answer.

"When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" If you want to progress in life, you cannot rest on your past laurels. You must continuously sharpen your axe of knowledge, skill and expertise, in whatever field of activity you may be!

By sharpening your axe appropriately, I wish you to attain your goals.

Management lessons from 3 Idiots...

After watching 3 Idiots I was wondering about the lessons that the movie conveys through its story. For people who have not watched 3 Idiots or don't know what 3 Idiots is, let me tell you that 3 Idiots is the latest Aamir Khan starrer. It also features Sharman Joshi and Madhavan with Kareena as lead actress. Film has been directed by Raju Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. This movie is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Five Point Someone'.
This movie is a story which revolves around 4 guys, Aamir, Joshi, Madhavan and Chatur (I don't know his real name, sorry for that). This film has shown that if the script is good, then the film will do a good business. It has already grossed more than 100 crore rupees which has surpassed Aamir's Ghajani's records. It has become the highest grosser ever and is now being compared with Sholay in terms of its popularity. But, it is too early to say that it is comparable to Sholay. Dialogues of Sholay are still remembered. We don't know about 3 Idiots whether for how many years it will be remembered. But one thing is for sure, the way the movie has been made, it will be revered in the future.
Coming to the point, we are talking about the management lessons that can be learnt from the movie. There are so many to talk about, but I will try to be concise and will give my lessons point-wise.

Lesson 1: Do not learn to get success. Learn for knowledge. Success will follow. When we strive hard to learn and improve our knowledge, we move ahead in life.

Lesson 2: Do not take life too seriously. Life is there to enjoy, have fun, making friends, and of course getting proper education. We get life once and we should live it the way we dream of.

Lesson 3: Learn to communicate well. Each word has its own importance. Proper pauses and stress on certain words will convey the exact meaning, or may even change the entire meaning. Like in the movie, Chatur's speech was modified with few words but the entire speech was changed. It was the most wonderful part of the movie. It was a laughter riot to watch the scene. Those who have not seen the movie yet are advised strongly to watch the movie.

Lesson 4: Last but not the least, help others and foster respect. Helping others helps you to grow mentally and easily associates you. A lasting relationship is created by helping others. In the movie, Aamir helps Joshi and Madhavan in choosing right careers for them and follow their dreams. This creates an everlasting bond between friends, not only friends but with anyone whom we help. You grow as a person and never have to look back in life.

Speech by Chetan Bhagat at Symbiosis...

Don't just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.

There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.

"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your
life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die. ...................

One thing about nurturing the spark - don't take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? ................

It's ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, fall in love, little fights with your spouse. We are people, not programmed devices........." :)

"Don't be serious, be sincere."!!!
